Summary of BRBH Employment Benefits

Medical, Dental and Vision Coverage

We offer comprehensive and affordable medical coverage through Anthem and Delta Dental.  Your cost depends on your benefits choice.  You choose the plan that best fits your lifestyle.

Virginia Retirement System
BRBH participates in the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) and pays the total cost of this benefit on your behalf.  This plan helps you meet your retirement needs by offering:

  • Full vesting after five years of employment; and the opportunity to retire at age 50 with 10 years of service or age 55 with 5 years of service with a reduced benefit.
Group Life Insurance
Employee group life insurance is provided through the Virginia Retirement System in the amount of two times the employee’s annual salary.

Additional Insurance Coverage
Employees may opt to purchase additional life insurance, cancer insurance, and accident and disability insurance.

Liability Insurance
The Agency provides liability insurance on employees for work activities during the hours for which they are both on duty and paid by BRBH.

Direct Deposit
Direct deposit is available to all employees.

Virginia 529 College Savings Plan
Full-time and part-time employees are eligible to enroll in a Virginia 529 College Savings Plan. The plan covers tuition and fees, room and board, and textbooks, supplies and computers (if required). The trust may be used at any accredited college in the country eligible to accept federal financial aid. There is no age limit and enrollment is open during specific times during the calendar year.

Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)
Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare provides a resource for full and part-time employees to seek counseling to address personal situations and challenges that are a part of work and life.

Paid Time Off
The Agency recognizes the need for employees to have time off from work for rest, rejuvenation, personal and family illness, and other personal matters.

The schedule for accrual of PTO is as follows.

Years Of Service Per Pay Period Accrual (hours) Annual Accrual Rate (hours) Annual Accrual Rate (days)
1-5 9 234 29.25
6-10 10 260 32.5
11-15 11 286 35.75
16-20 12 312 39
20+ 13 338 42.25

Part-time employees accrue PTO credits in proportion to the number of hours of work for which they were hired.

Supplemental Leave
Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare understands employees may need time to take care of personal and family needs, therefore the Agency provides a Supplemental Leave Bank.  This accrued leave may be used for extended illness of the employee or immediate family member as defined by the policy.  This policy applies to all full-time and part-time employees.  The accrual rate for SL is based upon the total years of service.
